Call for Abstracts
Overview
The symposium planning committee would like to invite abstract submissions for poster presentations. Abstracts should demonstrate how the presentation complements the symposium themes and outcomes. Submissions from students are strongly encouraged.
The main themes of the conference include:
- Early childhood development and parenting
- Early life exposure and later wellbeing
- How health, learning, and society intersect
- Mobilizing current knowledge from diverse disciplines
Symposium Format
Investing in Mothers and Children: Developmental Trajectories, Health, Learning and Society will take place from Thursday, September 27 to Saturday, September 29. Plenary sessions will be presented each day. The symposium will include two public lectures. A facilitated poster session will be held the evening of Friday, September 28.
Submitting Abstracts
Abstracts are accepted and reviewed using the University of Toronto’s electronic Abstract Management System. Instructions are outlined in full when you log into the system through the symposium website:

Note that all information should be provided as it should appear in the conference program, including the order of the presenter names if applicable. Abstracts will not be edited.

- Brief Description
- Goals and Objectives
- Methods
- Results
WORD LIMIT: 250
Abstract Evaluation
Submissions may contain work that is complete or in progress. All abstract submitters must complete the disclosure document also found on the website.
All submissions will be evaluated based on:
- Relevance to symposium themes, outcomes and audience
- Demonstration of innovative and emerging approaches
- Clarity and completeness of submission
Timelines
Abstract submission: Friday, August 17, 2012
Reviewers’ decisions: Friday, August 24, 2012
Notification date: Monday, August 27, 2012
Acceptance to present due from presenter: Tuesday, September 4, 2012
Interactive Poster Reception
Friday, September 28 from 6:00 to 7:30 pm. Please be at your poster at this time.
Set-up: Friday, September 28 – from 9:00 to 11:00 am.
Velcro will be provided to attach your poster. Pins will not be permitted.
Tear-down: Saturday, September 29 – posters must be removed from the boards no later than 11:30 am.
If your poster is not removed, it will be removed for you and we will not be responsible if the poster is misplaced or damaged.
Poster Size
Poster boards are 6’ wide and 3’ high.
Additional Details
If your abstract is accepted, you (and your co-presenter(s), if applicable):
- Are expected to present at the Symposium
- Must pay all expenses to present and attend the Symposium (e.g., preparation of the poster, registration fee, travel, hotel, etc.)
